Storytelling & Urban Life

The thin line…

Bluesponge

The past 24 hours have been intense. A bit like those last moments before splitting with someone dear. Just as we were about to finalize the site’s overall design, Kevin, an old time collaborator and friend of Bluesponge, posted a critique late at night that made our night even shorter than usual.

Were we losing the soul of Bluesponge to a bland and impersonal sophisticated blog? Were was the fun, irony and madness that had been our trademark for the past years?Kevin was right in most of what he said, including that we were moving away from what Bluesponge had been known for. It felt like a boyfriend asking his girlfriend to stay when she knows too well it’s now time to leave. (Girls do that too!)

Jonathan, another dear friend and collaborator, who was part of the re-branding process before it actually started stepped in and told us exactly why we had to leave her behind. We couldn’t have said it better.

Then Kevin, comes back in and talks design, content, branding and experience.

Guys, we followed your discussion all day long. We checked atlanticrecords (with Janelle on the home page!) and realized that depth, meaning and personality should be expressed in the interactions. In the way content reacts and roll-over helps you navigate; we thought about content hierarchy through underlays to help you focus, and about sharpnels that sharpen the attention.

With the guys at Studio FEED, we pushed a step further and are now working on how animations, overlays and underlays can create a depth of field and engagement with content. Different ones were created for different types of content.

Here’s what we’ve come up with. All is not here yet as some things will appear on integration and at this point then, only then, will we know if we got it right or not.

Here are images of the last interfaces and here, an BS-Web-3_commentaires_Fady summarizing yesterday’s discussion/conclusions with FEED.
Yo integration! over to you.
